Debenham’s £6 Kate ring set to be best-ever seller

Costume jewellery ring has seen “overwhelming demand” from consumers.

Debenhams has announced that its £6 costume jewellery replica of Kate Middleton’s engagement ring is due to become its fastest selling piece of jewellery.

With just a week to go to the royal wedding, Debenhams has revealed that it has re-stocked with the replica ring, following a high level of demand from consumers.

Professional Jeweller originally reported in December that the style of ring – from the retailers Vicenza brand – had been a sell-out despite being set with a purple ‘stone’. An updated version, set to mimic the bright blue of Middleton’s sapphire, has also been released.

Marketing the ring as the "six quid ring that makes you feel like a princess", Debenhams says the product will meet the “overwhelming demand” it has received from customers for an affordable regal equivalent.

So high is demand from customers that Debenhams has already indicated that the ring will become its fastest selling jewellery item ever, although it has not revealed the size of its stocks.

"It’s clear that women have been captivated by the romance of the occasion. They want the chance to look like a princess too — for a fraction of the price", said Debenhams spokeswoman Vicky Hewitt.

The sapphire and diamond Garrard ring originally chosen by Princess Diana at a price tag of £28,500, is now said to be valued at more than £250,000. The Debenham’s version differs slightly with a split shank style of design.
