EC One opens entries for Unsigned 2014 competition


Emerging designers can win mentoring opportunity with indie retailer.

Independent London jewellery retailer EC One has launched the fourth edition of its Unsigned competition, as it seeks out emerging jewellery talent to support with mentoring and manufacturing advice.

Unsigned, which launched in 2010, has supported past winners including Myia Bonner, Clarice Price Thomas and Katie Jamieson. The initiative aims to support the work of fresh jewellery talents by providing advice and promotion through EC One’s team of buyers, merchandisers and goldsmiths.

The 2014 edition of the Unsigned competition is currently calling for entries. Entrants are required to have graduated from a design course in the past two years and must be seeking a career as an independent jewellery designer/maker.

Jos Skeates, co-founder and goldsmith at EC One, said: "We run the competition to try to find the most talented designers who could benefit from the advice and promotion our company EC One can offer. It’s free to enter and if you are lucky enough to be chosen we will help you develop your work and display it in our Clerkenwell store as well as getting valuable advice from our goldsmiths and buyers."

Those wishing to enter can simply post an image that best represents thier work with up to a 100 word statement on the EC One Facebook page.

The team at EC One will pick a Top 10 to go through to the first round and post these on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The three images with the most votes won through social media will go through to the next round – with one wildcard designer chosen by EC One.

The final four will be asked to come and show their work to a small panel of industry experts and the 2014 winner will be announced at EC One’s Unsigned party held at its store in London later this year.
