Emson Haig, which claims to have the largest jewellery store in Europe, is now a member of the CMJ.

Lakeside jeweller swayed by CMJ’s transformation of recent years.

Emson Haig in Lakeside has signed up as a member of the Company of Master Jewellers.

The retailer, which claims to have the largest jewellery showroom in Europe by square footage, said that the “forward thinking attitude of the CMJ” has finally swayed it to join a buying group.

Emson Haig managing director David Shone added: “I’ve been approached by other buying groups in the past but could never see the benefit of becoming a member. However, the CMJ has changed beyond all recognition in the past few years, and its progressive and commercial vision fits perfectly with Emson Haig’s business strategy. We are looking forward to working with the CMJ and becoming part of the largest jewellery buying group in the UK and Ireland, with all the benefits that brings.”

CMJ chief executive Willie Hamilton said that he looks forward to working with Shone and believes that the CMJ will “learn much from Emson Haig’s business model”.

Hamilton added: “The CMJ is no longer just a buying group – our members benefit from extensive training, marketing, networking and collaborative support. The addition to our growing membership base of such a prominent and well-respected retailer as Emson Haig shows that more and more leading independent retailers are recognising these benefits.”
