EXCLUSIVE: Edinburgh jeweller anticipates imminent reopening of redesigned store

Professional Jeweller spoke to Edinburgh jeweller Hamilton & Inches late last year on the PJ Podcast about its then-upcoming multi-storey renovation project which it would be tackling during lockdown.

Now with a reopening date of 26 April on the horizon for Scottish non-essential retailers and the renovation work more or less complete, the store’s staff are eager to get back to business.

PJ caught up with CEO Victoria Houghton to find out if the retailer is ready to reopen next month.

What will Hamilton & Inches’ reopening look like next month?

We have the highly anticipated unveiling of our newly redesigned store located on 87 George Street in Edinburgh.

We plan to be as flexible and accessible as possible for our clients, adapting where needed.

We’ll be offering private appointments and tours, whilst monitoring government guidelines to ensure we are adhering to all COVID safety measures and social distancing.

Do you have any concerns about the reopening?

No, we are all delighted to be able to welcome back our clients. The team at Hamilton & Inches are looking forward to once again providing clients with an unforgettable, luxury experience.

What can brands do to support retailers like yourself at this time?

We’re all feeling the impact of COVID and we value our relationships with our brand partners, now more than ever.

It’s been essential for everyone to share relevant business updates and support each other when needed.

We’ve seen this throughout the pandemic with supportive digital marketing campaigns and the sharing of digital assets relating to online product launches.

Our watch brands, Patek Philippe and Rolex have been leading team product training, to ensure we’re making the most of this time and brushing up on product knowledge which has been excellent.

How do you see business faring in the first few weeks back?

I’m very optimistic about sales improving as the retail outlook changes. The hope is that pent up demand will equate to sales. The sentiment and desire among consumers to return to normal and re-engage is very positive.
