As Valentine’s Day looms, Professional Jeweller catches up with Pandora’s design team to discover the trends and influences set to influence the market this season…
What is the overall story of Pandora’s 2018 Valentine’s Day collection?
The Valentine’s Day 2018 collection is all about timeless love stories and acts of love – making promises, being connected and in love. Divided into three themes – ‘Explosion of Love’, ‘Lock Your Promise’ and ‘I Love You’ – the collection is infused with striking details and signature statements.
Can you sum up the Valentine’s Day collection in a few words?
Heartfelt statement pieces. Tonal colour palette. Versatile. Intimate.
Can you elaborate on the colours and materials used in the collection?
Vibrant colourways illustrate the intricate and minimalist designs; three new enamel colours, including ‘Pandora Red’, create a stunning colour story for the collection. A new stone, fancy fuchsia cubic zirconia, also makes its sparkling debut. Genuine metals – sterling silver, Pandora Rose and 14ct gold – add a touch of timeless elegance to contemporary styles in true Pandorafashion.
Are there any new techniques or innovations that you have introduced?
We are premiering many distinct designs just in time for Valentine’s Day. Part of the ‘Explosion of Love’ series, the adjustable bar bracelet with bolo closure is one of the most exciting new arrivals. The sparkling, sputnik-like charm with raised stones offers a fresh take on Pandora’s signature pavé charms. The ‘Lock Your Promise’ series includes a new floating locket design with a heart key pendant in two sizes. Another novelty, a padlock-inspired, extremely versatile snake chain bracelet features a detachable clasp that doubles as a necklace pendant. The collection also profiles a new stone cut, the heart step dome cut. Exclusive to Pandora, it adds an exciting new dimension to ring, charm and necklace stylings.
What inspired you to do ‘Kiss More’ jewellery?
The ‘Kiss More’ series is inspired by playful lip and heart patterns as well as emojis, the ultimate modern-day love symbols. Glamorous and contemporary, they express the light-hearted side of love. The series reminds us how we should remember to be more affectionate towards each other every day, not just on Valentine’s Day.
Valentine’s Day self-gifting has gained popularity in the recent years. How is Pandora taking this trend into account?
As a brand very much focused on emotion, we celebrate all kinds of love, including self-love. To us, Valentine’s Day is all about expressing and feeling the love, wearing your heart on your sleeve. Any piece in the collection can be gifted to a significant other, a friend or oneself.
