Designer honoured as Rising Star for his work in China and Hong Kong.
Birmingham designer Fei Liu has been honoured with a nomination in the Cathay Pacific China Business Awards for his pioneering and innovative business work in China and Hong Kong.
Lui was praised for his work as a UK-based company developing its presence overseas. He has been nominated in the Rising Star category of the awards, which focuses on “dynamic and innovative businesses, which have opened operations in China within the last five years and demonstrate entrepreneurial flair”.
The awards ceremony is set to take place in London this week. The awards organiser, airline Cathay Pacific, is said to have been impressed by Liu’s business strategy in mainland China as well as his work to introduce UK-based jewellery bands to the Chinese market. Cathay Pacific said Liu had “demonstrated entrepreneurial flair in introducing the boutique design concept to China” with the award’s judges keen to see Liu “recognised and encouraged” for his work.
He said of his nomination: “I am absolutely thrilled to be considered as one of the strong contenders for these very important awards. It is vital to recognise how the British creative industries are increasingly thriving in China, and to be highlighted as a success story by such a high profile corporation is a great honour.”
Fei Liu has more than 30 UK stockists. He opened his first standalone store in China in 2009, becoming the first UK-based designers to do so. He also has a number of concession spaces in Chinese luxury department store Shin Kong Place, Hangzhou, Chongqin and Chendu.
