Fellows charity necklace surpasses auction estimate

A Little Drop of Strength (2)

A special pendant auctioned to raise money for blood cancer charity, DKMS, surpassed its estimate at Fellows Auctioneers.

The ‘Little Drop of Strength’ necklace, auctioned in the family-run firm’s May 14 jewellery sale, sold for £520, far above its £80 – £120 auction estimate.

Fellows Auctioneers are donating the buyer’s premium from the lot, making the total donation £663.52.

The necklace registered a huge amount of interest, receiving 51 bids from a total of nine bidders.

The countdown timer for the item kept increasing as bids were placed on the necklace right up to the final second.

All money raised will go to DKMS’ work to provide a matching donor to every blood cancer patient in need of a blood stem cell donor.

Fellows Auctioneers managing director, Stephen Wittaker, shares: “To see so many bids from a variety of people on the Little Drop of Strength necklace was a delight. All of the proceeds from the sale of this item will be going to DKMS, a great charity with a worthy cause.”

Fellows sold the necklace on behalf of designer, social media influencer and DKMS ambassador Sally Hurman.

Hurman was inspired to create the solid silver, teardrop-shaped pendant due to her own very personal connection to the cause following her husband’s diagnosis of blood cancer five years ago.

Head of Fundraising at DKMS, Caroline Richardson, remarks: “We’re thrilled that Fellows supported DKMS through the auction of Sally Hurman’s stunning Little Drop of Strength necklace to help in the fight against blood cancer. The £663.52 raised will be put to good use immediately by providing around 16 home swab kits to potential lifesavers.”

The donation from the sale of this necklace will allow the charity to process 16 donor kits.
