The Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A) has announced its Annual General Meeting 2015 will take place at 11am on Wednesday June 24 at The Crypt Restaurant in Ely Place and will be followed by a talk from chief executive officer James Riley on his recent field trip to Mogok.

Following a year of growth at Gem-A, members, students and partners of the Association are encouraged to join the company’s AGM to vote on the future direction of the charity and how it best serves the industry and its members in the coming years.

With the Association’s further growth both at home in the UK and in a number of territories abroad (including Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, and North America), along with its brand-new BSc (Hons) top-up degree in association with Birmingham City University, this AGM comes at a pinnacle time in the progression of Gem-A and represents an opportunity for members to endorse the current path of the organisation or influence change.

In addition to the usual agenda, this year’s AGM will also continue a tradition set in recent years with a speech from an industry figure about a topical subject concerning both gemstones and the wider jewellery industry. This year attendees will hear from CEO James Riley about his recent field trip to Mogok with Gem-A chairman Jason Williams and The Journal of Gemmology editor in chief, Brendan Laurs.

Discussing the upcoming AGM, CEO James Riley, says: “Gem-A has progressed greatly over the past five years and we hope we can continue this upward trend in the future and keep building on this positive momentum in the years to come.

“However, vital to this aim is the influence of all members who have the lead when it comes to the direction of the Association, its core aims and how it goes about achieving them. We hope that at this year’s AGM all our members will get involved in this process and make their voices heard and their votes counted.”

Nominations for the board will go live on the Gem-A website from Tuesday June 2, along with voting forms, the AGM agenda, and company accounts for the past fiscal year.
