The key to weathering storms in your personal and professional lives is focusing on the here and now, writes UNODE50’S Emma-Louise Gregory, UK and Ireland sales director…
If I were to be asked to talk about what I have learnt from this pandemic, it would have to be the ‘Power of Now’. What I mean by this is the importance of focusing on today and understanding what drives your life and business today.
People often reflect on the past, but times have changed and we need to conform to what works in the present.
We must follow trends with social media, understand our audiences and create wonderful experiences for clients. Living in the past not only holds you back, it makes you less focused on today. You cannot change the past.
The other side of this is when you focus too much on the future. The world of retail business has been turned upside down this last year, causing fear of the future.
I focus on the day ahead, feel grateful for being alive and ready to seize the day.”
The most successful businesses are those that have conformed to the situation they were thrown into – they increased their social media presence, launched or improved their website and conformed to a new way of working, living in the now. Now stores have reopened these businesses are achieving even greater results than before.
You can also adapt this approach to everyday life. I focus on the day ahead, feel grateful for being alive and ready to seize the day. This maintains a positive mindset and means I can focus on my daily goals and support my team and retailers to the best of my ability.
One of my favourite philosophers is Wayne Dyer and I want to end this with a quote from him: “Stop acting as if life is a rehearsal. Live this day as if it were your last. The past is over and gone. The future is not guaranteed.”
