GUEST COLUMN: There’s power in women working together

Guest column

In honour of International Women’s Day I want to talk about the power of women working together.

UNOde50 is made up of women from all backgrounds, employed both locally and globally, which is what makes International Women’s Day especially important, to motivate and encourage each other to be the best we can be. UNOde50 is a brand created from the vision of Jose Azulay, who wants women to feel empowered when they wear the pieces and the team share the same passion and motivate one another.

My personal experience with the brand has been very empowering. I am a single mum who is also extremely determined and ambitious. When I joined UNOde50 in 2017, I knew that eventually I wanted to progress within my role. My director, David Azulay, saw the potential in me and offered me the position of UK & Ireland sales director after only 19 months. This is proof that being a mum does not hold you back from pursuing a career of your dreams!

On top of my role with UNOde50, I am very proud to be the Wales Ambassador for the Women’s Jewellery Network, which is a huge support system for likeminded business women who want to conquer the world of jewellery… together! I strongly believe that women should encourage one another and celebrate each other’s achievements.

A quote I love is, ‘You can always tell who the strong women are. They are the ones you see building one another up instead of tearing each other down’.

I also believe that female employees are paramount to business success within the jewellery trade, us women love to wear jewellery, so who better to wear it and sell it to the end consumer, I also think it’s important for brands and companies to offer more choice for men as well. UNOde50 offers a unisex line called ‘Genderless’ and I love the campaigns where we offer couples the chance to wear matching jewellery.

Women and men in jewellery are a winning combination. They complement one another and give a consumer a chance to see things from a male and female perspective when choosing jewellery.

I want to end this by saying a huge thank you to all the women who support me on a daily basis — especially my team. Here’s to strong women! May we know them, may we be them, may we raise them
