Historic independent jewellery retailer, Hamilton & Inches, has appointed a new chief executive officer as part of its five year strategy growth plan.
Effective immediately, no-executive board member, Victoria Houghton, will now take the reins from Stephen Paterson, who has stepped down after 40 years in the role.
Houghton will lead Hamilton & Inches into a new era, promising to hold onto its heritage whilst introducing a contemporary style and service to the company.
Houghton will bring the business, creative buying and strategic management expertise she has gained gained since joining the independent jeweller’s board in June 2018 to her new role.
Hamilton & Inches says the appointment of a new CEO is part of a wider strategy to double turnover to £20 million over the next five years.

The new CEO is passionate about delivering an unparalleled customer experience, saying it is vital focus surviving the currently challenging retail landscape.
As such, an experiential retail approach will be implemented in the George Street showroom, in addition to an investment to renovate the facia and internal aesthetics.
Hamilton & Inches plans to lift up Edinburgh as a shopping destination and maintain a leading position in the fine jewellery market by further establishing partnerships with the finest, globally acclaimed brands in the industry. Developing the watch offering of Hamilton & Inches with partners Rolex, Patek Philippe and Bremont, will also play an integral part of the strategy and each partner has endorsed the new appointment of Houghton as CEO.
Meanwhile, Hamilton & Inches will continue to develop their bespoke design service in the traditional Edinburgh workshop, above the George Street showroom, to meet the growing market for fine jewellery and engagement rings.

Houghton has an impressive track record as a retail and business leader, which includes initiating negotiations to take on the country-wide franchise for Next in Romania and firmly establishing it with four profitable stores in Bucharest. She also held the role of fashion and accessories buyer at Next plc, River Island and M&S, and relocated to Bangkok, Thailand under the position of product developer for Next plc. Houghton was also appointed by Q5 business management consultants working with Burberry on their strategic business transformation and change management project.
