Hamilton & Inches unveils nature-inspired collection

Scottish jeweller used local gold in designing its 21-piece collection

Hamilton & Inches has unveiled Botanical, its new high jewellery collection or rings, pendants and earrings.

The 21-piece Botanical Collection is inspired by Scotland’s flora and fauna, with each piece reflecting the shapes of fern leaves and their bilateral symmetry.

The fern motif proved central to the iconography of the collection, as a tribute to its use during Victorian times as a medicinal remedy.

Each piece is designed in-house using single-mine origin 18 carat Scottish gold, with Hamilton and Inches one of only two jewellery houses that are licensed to use the material.

Selected stones include emeralds, diamonds, sapphires, tanzanites, and tourmalines, all of which have been set into the pieces.

These stones are juxtaposed with the amber tones of the 18 carat Scottish gold, offering a timeless look.

The Botanical Collection is built off the basis of traceability, with each piece entirely mined and made in Scotland.

Victoria Houghton, CEO of Hamilton & Inches, said: “Since we opened our doors in 1866, Hamilton & Inches has been renowned for its wealth of in-house talent.

“Having uncovered a striking Victorian fern brooch from within our archives, our craftspeople turned to the romantic colours of Scotland’s flora & fauna for inspiration for the Botanical Collection.

“Our rich and varied heritage allows us to discover these sorts of hidden gems, and use them as inspiration, allowing our history to shape our contemporary collections and create heirloom-worthy pieces.”

Each piece in the collection is presented alongside its own Scottish gold certificate, highlighting the designer’s commitment to traceability.
