Designer’s Ring of Fire a symbol of eternity and Queen’s reign.

Hannah Martin has been named the winner of diamond brand Mastercut’s Diamond Jubilee competition, with a design entitled Ring of Fire, featuring 20 Mastercut diamonds.

Martin’s design suited the brand’s aim of nurturing creative talent and all entrants were encouraged to let their “imaginations run wild” while incorporating 20 Mastercut diamonds into their designs, worth more than £20,000.

Martin said of her winning, crown-like design: “For me the diamond is really about longevity and a mark of commitment, which the Royal Jubilee is celebrating. The ring as designed with strength in mind and is also symbolic of the longevity and solidity of the reign of the Queen.”

Martin said the idea behind the design was a “twist on the idea of diamonds as a symbol of eternal love”. The diamonds form a circle on top of the finger but have a sculptural, hard-edged setting inspired by architecture and machinery.

“When you are wearing the ring it should feel like a symbol of power, burning on your finger,” explained Martin.

James Maxwell, managing partner of 21st Dimension, the distributor of Mastercut diamonds in the UK, said: “The winning entry is a strong, contemporary design yet its inspirations are perfectly aligned with the brand ethos.”

Martin’s winning design will be manufactured by Mastercut and will be exhibited during London Jewellery Week and the CMJ’s summer trade event in August, as well as IJL in September. It is also set to tour a number of select Mastercut stockists in the UK.

Hannah Martin was named a Trendsetter in the Professional Jeweller Hot 100 2011.
