Retailer’s operations fully audited, covering more than 100 stores.
The Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) has today announced that F.Hinds Limited has achieved certification meeting the ethical, human rights, social and environmental standards as established by the RJC’s Member Certification Standard.
The high street jewellery chain’s certification encompasses all of its UK operations, which total more than 100 retail locations.
The retailer was successfully audited by Specialized Technologies Resources – Responsible Sourcing (STR‐RS), one of the independent third-party auditing firms accredited to the RJC’s Member Certification System.
Michael Rae, CEO of the RJC said: "The certification of F.Hinds across its UK retail stores will send a strong message to consumers as well as to the jewellery industry regarding the company’s commitment to sustainable development. RJC is delighted that the F.Hinds’ team has achieved Certification."
Andrew Hinds, director and diamond buyer of F.Hinds, said: "As a fifth generation family company, the way we do business is important to us."
"We were delighted when the Responsible Jewellery Council was formed as we felt that it would enable the jewellery industry to make a real difference in the world.”
Hinds added: "We are proud that our industry is leading the way in many areas of responsible sourcing and is pioneering initiatives not yet found in other sectors. We are equally proud that our certification shows that we continue to play a leading role in this process."
The news of F.Hinds’ auditing comes after the focus on high street retailers to operate more responsibly was raised in the Dispatches’ documentary The Real Price of Gold, which aired in June.
