HIGHLY COMMENDED: Emerging Designer PJ COTY 2015, Ellie Air for Firma

Ellie Air

The name of the Firma collection is taken from the Italian word for signature, and has been created by Lauren Rowden, who has been designing under the brand name Ellie Air since 2003.

Rather than referring to engravings or lettering in some way, the 9ct gold jewellery collection actually pays homage to an antique ring that Rowden found with her initials already engraved on it and an English hallmark dating back to 1925.

The signet ring, which she stumbled upon whilst visiting Bruges, has a shape that Rowden describes as both “beautiful and unusual”, and she has worked some of the rhombus shapes and dainty stars on that ring into the collection.

The jewels in the Firma collection, which include earrings and pendants, have each been adorned with a star-set rose-cut grey diamond. There are also two special rings in the collection; an eternity band set with brilliant-cut white diamonds and a signet ring that can be engraved with the owner’s initials in tribute to the original
