More than 1,000 competitors expected at London-based competition.

Holts Academy of Jewellery and Cookson Precious Metals will sponsor the next World Skills event in London next month, encouraging more than 100,000 attendees to consider futures in the jewellery industry.

Holts Academy, based in Hatton Garden, has joined forces with Cooksons, the largest manufacturer and supplier of products to the British jewellery trade.

Together they are the presenting sponsors and official suppliers of the world’s largest international skills competition, the internationally acclaimed World Skills, which takes place from October 5 to 8.

Over four days, an incredible 1,000 talented competitors from more than fifty countries, will be competing in forty six skill areas including jewellery making.

As a way of engaging the public with vocational jewellery careers and learning more about the materials used to make jewellery, Holts Academy and Cooksons are launching their Have A Go campaign, encouraging people to take part in different activities for the first time and be inspired to start a new and exciting career.

The campaign will offer the 150,000 expected visitors the chance to make their own personalised medals.

The World Skills competition says that “jewellers can use their creativity and design their own pieces, especially if working independently. They need to use a range of hand tools and traditional techniques to make their products. They also need detailed knowledge of precious stones and processes to ensure they use these high-value materials economically.”

World Skills will take place at the Excel Arena in London.
