We chart the progress of the designer from NexGem to Trendsetter.
As we look forward to the Professional Jeweller Hot 100 2012 in association with The Company of Master Jewellers and supported by gold partner Ti Sento, we indulge in a bit of looking backwards to the leading lights of the jewellery industry that made it into the Hot 100 2011. Today we’re focusing on jewellery designer Tomasz Donocik and his progression from Swarovski Nex Gem in 2010 to Trollbeads Trendsetter in 2011.
Tomasz Donocik has had a busy 12 months, and the fruits of his labour have this year moved him up a category in the Hot 100, from a NexGem in 2010 to a Trendsetter in 2011.
Over the past 12 months Tomasz’s jewellery brand has rapidly evolved and his standing in the industry has grown to new heights. His latest fine jewellery collection, Garden of Good and Evil, has been critically acclaimed and his silver ranges continue to generate interest from trendsetting retailers in the UK and internationally, with particular interest from Japan and the US where he has just signed sales agents.
After launching Garden of Good and Evil in December, he has also shown his jewellery at Inhorgenta in February, where he picked up stockists from Germany, Austria and Holland, at London Jewellery Week and at a Company of Master Jewellers’ buyers’ meeting in August.
As well as building his international sales, Tomasz has been strengthening retail network in the UK. He has picked up new retailers, such as Charles Fish in London, and has worked closely with existing stockists such as London store Wolf & Badger, for which he has created limited-edition ranges and allowed the retailer to take his jewellery on tour to Montenegro for a pop-up shop over summer.
Over the next year Tomasz plans to continue jetsetting, with trips planned to LA to meet with his US sales agent, and to Japan, where he will host trunk shows at his stockists. But when back on his home turf, Tomasz will continue to develop his collections, including his Four Elements line, amongst the curiosities of his London studio.
This year he will also finally have his work shown in Garrard, the prize for a competition he won back in 2009. It has been a long wait but Tomasz says he feels like now is the right time. “I’ve got my fine collection so it feels perfect,” he enthuses. “It will be a big event; I’ll take over the windows, the store and really make the space my own.”
