Hot 100 2013: Jana Reinhardt & Ross Cutting

Translating trinkets into delicate jewels from a studio by the sea.

Jana Reinhardt, it turns out, is not one but two people. Using her name as the headline, it is actually the title of a brand run by the German designer and her husband Ross Cutting.

This year they were finalists for Etailer of the Year at the UK Jewellery Awards, going head to head with the likes of Chisholm Hunter and Ross says that was a big feather in their cap, especially given their scale.

“At the moment we’re a small outfit, it’s just Jana and I, with help from a few outside people, but we like the idea of growing so that we can do it all in house, with designers at the bench and a marketing team. The way it’s growing there’s no reason why that won’t happen. We’re not just happy to sit on what we have.”

They made a big move already this year by relocating from their Hatton Garden HQ to a new one in Worthing, their “cosy workshop by the sea”. They have retained a small office in London, which they use for client meetings and Ross says the lifestyle alone justifies the move as they can walk to work and take lunch on the beach.

Jana trained as a goldsmith in Germany and came to the UK in 2005 for a work exchange and ended up working at a tiny jewellers in Torquay where Ross was also working. Jana moved on first, going to London and setting up her own brand with the name in place by the time Ross followed.

Ross says Jana sets the agenda. “She is keen on naive art and a collector of quirky things. Right now, its butterflies and hummingbirds, in line with the Reinhardt love of nature.”

If you want to unleash your inner earth goddess while keeping it stylish then Jana Reinhardt is your go-to brand.

Jana Reinhardt and Ross Cutting were selected as NexGems in the Professional Jeweller Hot 100 2013 in association with The Company of Master Jewellers. To read the digital edition of the book online, click here.
