Director of UK subsidiary of Gemvision talks CAD, CAM and 3D printing.
Having transformed his company from the UK subsidiary of Gemvision into an independent distributor for the CAD/CAM specialist, it’s safe to say Graham Dicks has had a landmark year.
This independence has also allowed Graham to take on additional product lines, including 3D printing technology from EnvisionTEC. “The combination gives us a great offering at the very top of our industry,” Graham states.
The creation of GVUK Design, the new name for the business, was not without considerable risk, and its f rst months have not all been plain sailing. But Graham is not afraid of daunting challenges, inside and outside of work.
“My motivation has always been to enjoy what is out there and try different things; I work to live,” he says boldly. “My current hobby of off-road motorbiking came about by walking in to a motor-bike shop for a £10 bulb for my Vespa, and riding out with my KTM 450 EXC. I want to try paragliding next, I think it will be even more exhilarating than gliding and flying,” he adds. His entrepreneurial spirit is complemented with a dogged determination to succeed.
An inspiring moment he recalls this year was at the CMJ Jewellery Conference where West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady touched a nerve with Graham. “Someone asked her how and why she had succeeded. With a passion and strength in her voice Karen said, ‘you have to want it more than anybody else, persist longer than anybody else and in time they will give way to you’.”
Advice, you sense as you listen to Graham’s passion for his business, that he intends to follow into 2015 and beyond.
