Oliver Crouch, sales manager, Continental Jewellery (UK)

“My single greatest success this year has been achieving large growth within the independent market,” explains Oliver, who’s been busy showcasing Continental Jewellery’s 9ct and 18ct core ranges to retail partners up and down the country.

He continues: “In the last 12 months we have opened 45 new doors and increased the turnover by 60% across independents. We have also had considerable growth within both the CMJ and Houlden buying groups and increased that turnover by 50%.”

Other highlights of the year include launching a core range brochure, which Oliver says has enabled more regular contact with existing accounts and given retailers a sales tool to deal with enquiries. He says: “Continental was very much a sleeping giant within the independent market, but with hard work and a slight change in direction we have managed to start fulfilling its potential. I have been in the jewellery industry for over 20 years and the last 12 months have been some of the best.”

Oliver completed the London marathon for the fifth time in April, but he’s now turning his back on the competition in favour of 5k and 10k races that he says are “slightly easier on the knees”.

Fortunately, he also knows how to kick off his running shoes and relax, in this case opting for the striking bar at the Edgbaston boutique hotel in Birmingham.

He says: “My work life keeps me away from home from time to time as I cover the whole of the UK and Ireland and I do the Basel and Vicenza trade shows as well as IJL and Jewellery and Watch Birmingham, it costs me a small fortune getting presents for the children every time I am away. I wouldn’t change it though; it’s an amazing industry full of great people.”
