Pushing into NYC and designing jewels with a gothic inspiration.

In a series of Q&As with the Professional Jeweller Hot 100 2013 NexGems, we find out what came next for this savvy set of designers since they were chosen as ones to watch in our annual jewellery industry celebration. Jane Gowans is making waves with her contemporary collections that take inspiration from flora and fauna, rock formations and all things nautical. She has taken part in a number of collaborations in the past year, recently designing a bracelet with artist Johanna Basford.

Professional Jeweller: You were selected as a Professional Jeweller Hot 100 NexGem – what did this mean for your business?
Jane Gowans: It was one of the big highlights of last year. It was a huge compliment.

PJ: Tell us about the time since the Hot 100 – how has business developed?
JG: It has given us further confidence to push the brand and look into international markets, which included a recent trip to New York which allowed us to undertake valuable research and make new connections.

PJ: Any exciting projects in the pipeline?
JG: We are currently producing our 2015 collection, which is inspired by the beauty of gothic architecture and encourages people to take time to look up and see the beauty of city skylines. Continuing on the success of the Chimera collection, the new range will include large show stopping pieces and our first ever ear cuff.
