This year is not only the fifth anniversary of the Alexis Dove Jewellery shop in Lewes, East Sussex, it’s also the 10th anniversary of the brand itself. And what better way to celebrate than by making the UKJA Jewellery Designer and Bridal Retailer of the Year shortlists – and featuring in the Hot 100?

When asked for her thoughts on the subject, it’s clear that the eponymous heroine of our story has no time to rest on her laurels: “Reaching these landmark dates in my business has focused my mind on the next 10 years!” Alexis enthuses. “With this in mind we will soon be moving to a prime location on Lewes high street, where I will be concentrating on precious and bespoke jewellery, as well as stocking our silver collections,” she reveals.

Another key development this year came during a trip to Peru to visit two Fairtrade gold mines. “This experience very much changed the way I look at designing and creating my jewellery,” she explains, “and so we will now be offering Fairtrade gold much more widely in our collections and bespoke jewellery.

“We have always striven to adhere to ethical principles and use trusted and reliable suppliers, recycled gold and diamonds. Adding Fairtrade gold is a much bigger move in this direction, which I feel tremendously positive about.”

With the grand opening of her new shop premises on the horizon set to open up new opportunities for audience interaction and expansion, Alexis counts herself lucky to have a close network of friends and family members by her side – especially her partner, goldsmith Justin Small, and of course Tiggy the dog. “For me, the business of jewellery is more a way of life than a job, and it’s great to have the support of those who are close to me,” she affirms.
