Having started her business from her coffee table in 2004, Alice Rivers-Cripps has built Posh Totty Designs from the ground up, with support from her husband and mother who now work alongside her, and, more recently, a committed group of staff members who allow her to reclaim a little family time.
This year, the efforts of Alice and her team were recognised at the Brighton and Hove Business Awards, where they were presented with no less than three trophies for Creative Industry, Fastest Growing Business and Business of the Year.
Working with a strong sense of social responsibility, Alice is also proud to have been able to collaborate with Women for Women International – a charity that helps women and families during and after war and conflict, as well as training, educating and empowering them to live a full life.
“This collaboration took me to Kosovo to meet and be inspired by women who have been affected by war. It was a very moving and rewarding experience,” she reflects. “I was given the opportunity to lead a basic silversmithing workshop and teach them about setting up a business from the kitchen table. Hopefully I was able to inspire them, too.”
Following the trip, Alice designed and made a necklace that will be launched just in time for Christmas, giving 100% profit directly to the charity.
And, with the launch of PTD Makes craft workshop parties, a same-day jewellery service and a bespoke paperless ordering app, as well as much investment in machinery and equipment, there’s never a dull day at Posh Totty. “We have loads more exciting projects and collaborations in the pipeline, but they are under wraps right now,” Alice adds.
