Just where do you start when trying to sum up the achievements of Rebecca Sellors and the renowned family jewellery business she is part of?
The past year has heralded a flurry of new product development, the launch of a trade website, the sourcing of new concept packaging and the evolution of a Jewellery Design Centre of Excellence in the heart of the Derbyshire countryside.
As far as the talented jewellery designer is concerned, standing still is not an option. “It just goes to show what can be achieved in a relatively short space of time,” says Rebecca, who graduated from Birmingham’s School of Jewellery with First Class honours in jewellery and silversmithing design three years ago.
“It has illustrated that we can be a proactive business, offering customers not just a wide range of product but a comprehensive and modern customer service. Personally, it has helped increase awareness of the collections from my own portfolio – ‘Rebecca Sellors for C W Sellors’.”
C W Sellors prides itself on being the only company in the UK to champion its best-loved British gemstones – Derbyshire Blue John and Whitby – both at home and abroad. “Our collection portfolio for both continues to grow and sets out a clear USP for us in the jewellery trade,” insists Rebecca.
“It is what the company success was founded on and continues to be a key area and focus of the business – whether through new collections, individual designs or specialist projects.”
As anybody who has worked in a family business will testify, a cross-over between home and work life is simply unavoidable. But if anything this has made Rebecca even more determined to succeed.
“As a general rule, you have to work twice as hard to deliver credibility alongside achievement, therefore I feel the main effect has been to put in more time outside of the normal ‘office hours’ to work hard at my development within the company,” she says.
