Jacobs the Jewellers has launched the first ever Reading-based young designers competition in association with the Bishopsland Educational Trust and the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths.

The Bishopsland Educational Trust, a jewellery design postgraduate course provider based in South Oxfordshire, kick-started the public-facing competition and will hold an exhibition for the shortlisted designs at Jacobs the Jewellers in the heart of Reading town centre.

Eight young Bishopsland based jewellery designers will showcase one piece of silver and one piece of jewellery, competing for best design in each category. In a pioneering exhibition, the public will be able to view and sample the designs between June 2 and June 20 , voting for their favourite design in each category at Jacobs the Jewellers’ Reading shop.

Any member of the public who votes will be entered into a prize draw to win a Jacobs the Jewellers gift certificate to the value of £250.

All parties have agreed to support the competition for the next three years demonstrating a commitment to the craft and artists of Bishopsland as well as to Reading town centre as a creative centre in the South East.

The official launch event will take place on June 1, followed by the exhibition from June 2. The winners will be announced on June 22.

Adam Jacobs of Jacobs the Jewellers commented: “Jacobs the jewellers is delighted to be supporting this unique opportunity for young jewellery designers in the Reading and the Berkshire area, helping the next generation of talent put their creative potential forward.”
