Glasgow’s RM Jewellers owners get to grips with sword-wielding robber
The owners of RM Jewellers in Glasgow were praised by a judge for thwarting an attack on their store by grabbing a sword-wielding robber by the testicles.
According to a report on STV, Daniel Hussain, 21, had only been out of prison for a month when he attempted to rob RM Jewellers last December. He had just served a 19-month sentence for serious assault and was still on licence at the time of the attempted robbery.
Hussain was brandishing a sword when he demanded that RM Jewellers owners Allison and Robert MacLaughlin handed over jewellery to him. The husband-and-wife team refused to give him anything and Robert MacLaughlin got into a struggle with Hussain.
During the struggle Allison MacLaughlin grabbed hold of Hussain by the testicles and managed to press the shop’s panic button.
Hussain escaped empty handed in a taxi but was later caught. He has now been sentenced at Edinburgh High Court to five years in jail.
Lord Brailsford said: "I have to say, to their credit they did not lie down and roll over. They resisted the intrusion into their premises and fought back and for this they deserve credit."
