John Greed in his Lincoln store. The company is calling for students to win an internship at the business and a chance to have their jewellery made in

Lincoln retailer seeking jewellery students for brand new initiative.

Lincoln’s John Greed Jewellery is offering aspiring jewellery designers the chance to win an internship, complete with a start-up grant to launch their own jewellery business.

The internship is being aimed at UK jewellery students and budding designers wishing to launch their own collections. The winner will scoop a three-week work placement at the company’s headquarters, a grant of £500 and the chance to have their designs manufactured part of our John Greed’s official jewellery collection.

Runners up will receive grants of £250 and £100 for second and third places, respectively.

Candidates have been asked to send John Greed a selection of their own jewellery design ideas based on a current fashion trend. Their designs will be judges by a panel, who will pick a winner based on the designs they believe are most inspirational, commercial and cohesive.

The internship has so far won support from Teeside University, Manchester Metropolitan, Univeristy of the Creative Arts Farnham, University of East London and Bath Spa University.

The company said in a statement: "It’s never been more difficult for students to get work experience, let alone a career doing what they love, so we really want to promote the internship.

"There’s nothing else like this currently in the UK and we genuinely believe that it’ll be a fantastic opportunity to find the UK’s brightest aspiring jewellery designer. John Greed, the founder and lead designer [at John Greed] essentially wants to give something back and understands how difficult it was for him to start his business, so now it’s even harder, it’s vital we ensure that we keep hold of and nurture potential jewellers in the UK."
