Jewellery retailers have noted an increase in the amount of money being spent on bridal gifts and in turn, a rise in jewellery gifting opportunities.
From offering consumers matching jewellery sets to pieces perfect for bridesmaids and groomsmen, the bridal market provides the perfect opportunity for jewellery retailers to offer add ons.
To capitalise on this Wongs Jewellers started creating and selling bridesmaid and groomsmen boxes, which managing director Peter Wong says have gone down a storm.
“The Bridesmaid boxes have been very successful,” Wong remarks. “They can be tailored to any member of the bridal party and customised too.”
At Lanes Fine Jewellery, the Leicester-based retailer has seen an increase in parents buying jewellery for daughters and grooms buying diamonds as gifts.
Lanes business owner, Carli Ognuc, shares: “As we find grooms are buying as gifts, it seems that they really want to impress and will often go for the whole suite of jewellery.”
On top of grooms-to-be being more generous, multiple retailer Goldsmiths has seen brides following suit.
“Brides are becoming increasingly generous to their bridal party and we are seeing an increase in popularity of diamond earrings, bracelets and necklaces as a result,” says Goldsmiths’ executive director, Craig Bolton. “Brides are increasingly gifting their bridal party with sentimental gifts that they can keep forever, so jewellery is the perfect gift.”
At Gecko, bridal gifting is an essential part of many of the supplier’s collections. Creative director, Desiree Pringle, explains: “Jewellery and weddings are inexorably entwined so it is a natural fit for us.”
When asked what she thinks bridal buyers look for in a gift for bridal parties, she responds: “I think they are looking for something which the receiver will definitely wear and which will remind them of their special day. Bearing this in mind, versatility is the key, so it is important that the gift is suitable to wear for both informal and formal occasions, and will go with most outfits. The personalisation option will also prove extremely popular as more bridal couples seek gifts which are unique to them and carry a memory of their own special occasion.”
