Jewellery & Watch has reintroduced seminars for the 2019 edition of the show.
Renamed ‘The Studio’, the trade fair’s seminar programme covers a range of topics anchored across five core themes: Future Trends, Design Talent, Digital Skills, Technology and Understanding the Consumer.
The Studio offers a line-up of headline speakers and business leaders discussing jewellery industry-specific topics, while visitors will also be able to enjoy more general business and retail talks on the main stage and in the retail skills theatre in halls 20 and 6 respectively.
Designed to address some of the biggest challenges in the jewellery trade, The Studio looks at future trends from the fashion and luxury sectors, showcase emerging design talent, tackle topical discussions around the impact of technology and consider changes in consumer behaviour, whilst delivering valuable business insights from industry leaders.
Speakers this year hail from Louis Vuitton, Pinterest, Green & Blacks, the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, the V&A Museum and many more.

Visitors to Jewellery & Watch will have a unique opportunity to get ahead with a range of trend forecasting and creative design sessions. On Day One, discover how to create a consistent visual merchandising strategy online and in-store with Serena Rizzi, former head of visual merchandising for stationary brand, Moleskin, and now a consultant at Prospettive Creative. With a wealth of omni-channel shopping experience, Rizzi is guaranteed to leave ecommerce and retail business owners feeling inspired.
Hannah Malein, creative director of Colour Hive and head of trends at MIX Magazine will share her ‘Colour & Material Trend Forecast for Spring Summer 2020’ on Day Two, while Jane Kellock, founder and creative director of Unique Style Platform, will put trends into context with her invaluable round-up of AW19 and SS20 catwalk and fashion look on Day Four.
Visitor on Day Four can also attend ‘Bridal Trends: What Will be Driving Bridal Fashion in Spring-Summer 2020’ to hear what will be driving the sector over the next 18 months.
A daily ‘Emerging Designers’ session will give up-and-coming talents the chance to share their insights, ideas and inspirations, while offering valuable advice to visiting designer-makers at the start of their careers.
Brush-up on your social media, web design and ecommerce skills with a range of specialist seminars at Jewellery & Watch. On Day One and Day Four, Chris Moore of Cohesion Digital will explain how to ‘Supercharge Your Ecommerce’ and transform your website into a smooth online machine that engages customers. Visitors on Day One will also have the chance to meet Amy Hobson, a partner and social media trainer at Socialb, who will offer insights into visual social media, such as Instagram and Pinterest, and how these platforms can be optimised to boost conversions and enhance brand awareness.
One Day Two, Living Content director Nyasha Pitt will host a panel discussion exploring the vital topic of personal branding and self-promotion for jewellery professionals, while Rosie Davies-Smith, founder of PR Dispatch, will host a session titled ‘Where to Start: PR Assets, Social Media and Pitching to Gain Coverage’ on Day Five.
In an anticipated panel discussion on Day Two, representatives of IIDGR, Madestones, S. Weissbart and Hockley Mint will debate ‘The Technology Arms Race’ in the jewellery sector, including devices designed to detect laboratory grown and simulant diamonds.
For those just starting their diamond journey, the De Beers Institute of Diamonds will host an ‘Introduction to Synthetic Diamonds’ workshop on Day Three – a session not-to-be-missed for shop floor associates and emerging designers looking to enhance their knowledge.
Understanding the Consumer
Simon Forrester, chief executive officer of Jewellery & Watch partner, the National Association of Jewellers, will discuss consumer behaviour and its impact on the jewellery sector on Day One of Jewellery & Watch. On Day Two, Lucy Reece-Raybould, executive director of business development and marketing at buying group, the Company of Master Jewellers, will host a seminar titled, ‘How Consumers Buy Jewellery… and How Much They Really Spend’.
In a nod to the all-encompassing concern of Brexit, Jacob Kane and Sam Owens of global payment and risk management solutions company, AFEX, will discuss ‘Navigating the Brexit Wave’ and the risks to the jewellery sector on Day Three. This will be a crucial opportunity to ask questions and consider how your business may be affected when the UK leaves the EU on March 29, 2019.
