Jewellery Week Greenwich shop up for grabs

Jewellery designers and emerging brands are being offered the chance to win a pop-up shop in Greenwich town centre for three weeks, thanks to Jewellery Week and Greenwich Hospital.

The space is designed to give jewellers a first-hand taste of running a retail store, with entrants asked to send in their applications before May 17. The competition follows last year’s prize of the same nature, won by designers Myia Bonner, Jessica de Lotz, The Jewellery Guild and Hayleigh-Joy.

Entries will be judged by Jewellery Week director Della Tinsley, Greenwich-based retailer and designer Johnny Rocket, Sophia Afxentiou and Matt Savage of Greenwich handbag and accessories company Sophia & Matt, Victoria Purcell, the editor of The Guide Magazine, and Gillie Bexson, Greenwich Hospital Estate portfolio manager.

Bexson said: “Greenwich is dedicated to creative designer maker artists and Greenwich Hospital is delighted to sponsor Jewellery Week 2013 and to host a special jewellery market on Saturday 15th June – definitely the place to find that special gem of a piece.

“The pop-up shop competition returns for a second year and we look forward to rewarding the three best designers the opportunity to share their own shop in June in Greenwich.’

Tinsley described the competition as “an invaluable experience” for a single jeweller or group of jewellers to gain retail knowledge and meet buyers and new customers.

Johnny Rocket, director of retail store Johnny Rocket added: “Greenwich is such a vibrant part of London and we believe that Johnny Rockets’ continuing success is in part due to being able to work in such an inspiring place.

“Being part of the judging panel I look forward to supporting and promoting the exciting young talent this city continues to produce.”

Those designers interested in applying for this year’s pop-up shop competition are asked to submit photographs of up to five pieces of their current jewellery collection ( photo size 15 cms or 72 dpi only), a brief CV, an A4 sketch or mood board showing merchandising concept for the shop and 200 words on why they would like to have a shop in Greenwich. Full contact details including a mobile number and an email address should also be included. Application should be sent to Anna Rakitina via

The competition is open to all jewellery designers who do not have an existing retail shop. Winners will also scoop a year’s Jewellery Week membership worth £200.
