Contest to win prime retail space in Greenwich opens for third year.
Jewellery Week and Greenwich Hospital have relaunched their annual pop-up shop competition, giving jewellery brands and emerging designers the opportunity to win a retail space in Greenwich town centre for three weeks.
The space is designed to give three jewellers a first-hand taste of running a retail store, following the footsteps of last year’s winners Maree London, Lila & Ida, Sian Bostwick and Kristjan Eyjolfsson.
Entries will be judged by Jeweller Week director Della Tinsley, Greenwich-based designers Johnny Rocket and Charlotte Rudkin, alongside editor of The Guide, Victoria Purcell, and head of property at Greenwich Hospital, Gillie Bexson.
Bexson commented: “The pop-up shop competition returns for a third year and we look forward to rewarding the three best designers the opportunity to share their own shop in June in Greenwich.”
Tinsley added: “‘We are delighted that Greenwich Hospital are once again contributing so much to Jewellery Week. The opportunity to win a shop for JW14 is an invaluable experience for a jeweller to gain retail knowledge, meet their buyers and give them a unique insight from their stockist’s point of view."
Last year’s winner Sian Bostwick described the pop-up competition as an amazing opportunity, and says she wished she could do it again. "We had a wonderful time meeting so many new people and introducing them to the world of individually-crafted designer jewellery made in Britain. Greenwich was also such a creative and positive place to be, the stall holders in the market and other shop owners were so friendly and enthusiastic for us – it really was perfect," Bostwick added.
Designers interested in applying for this year’s pop-up shop competition are asked to submit photographs of up to five pieces of their current jewellery collection (photo size 15 cms or 72 dpi only), a brief CV, an A4 sketch or mood board showing merchandising concept for the shop and 200 words on why they would like to have a shop in Greenwich. Full contact details including a mobile number and an email address should also be included.
Application should be sent to Anna Rakitina via email@example.com before May 28. The winners will be announced on June 3 and the shop will open on June 7.
The competition is open to all jewellery designers who do not have an existing retail shop. Winners will also scoop a year’s Jewellery Week membership worth £200.
