Jewellery worth more than £2,000 was stolen from the Harrogate Home & Gift Show on July 19, highlighting the importance of adequate security at trade events around the UK.

Items were reported missing from the Harrogate International Centre, including silver marcasite jewellery, watches and fashion accessories from two stalls.

The thieves are said to have stolen the goods between the traders setting-up their stands on Saturday 18 and the show opening on Sunday 19.

Despite two traders reporting the thefts to police, it is believed up to six may have had their items stolem, according to The York Press.

Cleere Scamell, director of the Home & Gift Show, said: “We regret to hear about the isolated incident and we are working closely both with HIC Yorksire and police in their investigation.

“We are absolutely committed to providing the very best possible service to our exhibitors and visitors during Home & Gift.”
