Designers can now subit their entries for the platinum-focussed award

The Lonmin Design Innovation Award has extended its entry deadline until May 17, and is looking for pieces designed with the theme of ‘New Frontiers’ in mind.

The annual competition, which seeks out innovative jewellery design in platinum, is now in its 11th year. This year its organiser Blue Inc Events has teamed up with trends analysis service Adorn Insight, to create a theme for entrants to work with.

The New Frontiers theme is based on a 2014 trend and is inspired by movements such as modernism, Bauhaus and Art Deco.

The competition is sponsored by platinum producer Lonmin and supported by International Jewellery London. It is open to designers who already work in platinum and those wishing to start, whether independent or working for a manufacturer or retailer.

The competition is judged by key figures in the jewellery industry and features two categories: emerging designers and established designers. There will be three winners in each category and this year’s prize will include a monetary contribution to the production of each winning piece as well as publicity and recognition for the winners.

Last year’s winners were Alexander Davis, Leyla Abdollahi, Sarah Jordan and Mandy Morris in the established designers category and Natasha Bagnall, Mark Hampson, Edward Slater and Laura Strand in the emerging designers category.
