South-West jeweller Michael Spiers is set to move into new premises in Plymouth, leaving behind its store of more than 50 years.

The retailer will not be moving far, leaving its 52-54 Cornwall Street site for 2 Cornwall street.

A statement on the company’s website reads: “Our current showroom is filled with lots of happy memories and has seen our Michael Spiers Family grow and flourish into what it is today, so will always hold a special place in our hearts.

“But don’t worry, we are still here for you, you will still be able to find us in No. 52-54 Cornwall Street until No. 2 is complete.”

It goes on to add that the new premises will still provide “the same Michael Spiers experience”, though adds that there will be an increased focus on watch brands Rolex, Omega, Breitling and Tudor.

Confirming that the shop fitting will take place soon, the statement concludes: “We truly believe that when the right opportunity strikes, you have to take it, and we see this as the next chapter in the Michael Spiers story, for us as a team and for you, our customers. We cannot wait to share this journey with you.”

Plymouth Live quoted a company spokesperson as saying: “The location of the new premises was a key factor in our decision making process. It is a much more prominent building, directly visible from key parts of a shopper’s journey within the city centre.” The spokesperson also added that a Q1 2022 opening was likely.
