He joined Gucci in 2009, where he was responsible for leading a repositioning of the brand, and before this he served as president of Swatch for five years and was also president of Fred Jewellers and Christian Dior watches at LVMH, among other roles.

Commenting on his role, Sofisti said: “I am delighted to be offered the opportunity to further develop this high-end watchmaking manufacture, which includes such a prestigious brand as Girard-Perregaux. I am looking forward to work alongside Monica Macaluso and with Stefano and Massimo Macaluso to bring Sowind Group’s growth potential to full fruition.”

Sofisti will be seconded at Sowind by Girard-Perregeaux managing director Stefano Macaluso and JeanRichard managing director Massimo Macaluso, who will both retain their current positions while working for Sofisti at Sowind.

PPR chief executive and Sowind president François-Henri Pinault said: “Michele has strong management expertise within the high-end watchmaking segment. I am confident that he will be able to develop Sowind Group’s growth on the international market, just as he is successfully doing currently at Gucci Group Watches.”
