More than £100,000 worth of gold jewellery stolen from St Ives gift shop


Cornwall-based independent gift and jewellery store Kudos has been the victim of a smash and grab raid.

On October 18 burglars made off with an estimated retail value of £250,000 worth of product. More than £100,000 of the stolen goods is said to be gold jewellery.

According to the police, entry was gained by a man, described as wearing a dark clothing, smashing a glass pane in the front door of the business located in Fore Street, St Ives.

The police believe only one person was involved. They have issued an appeal for more information and witnesses.

Talking to local newspaper, Weston Briton News, store owner Martin Phillips said: “We’re not insured so this will seriously affect our business. I am just totally shocked this could happen although a jewellery shop was hit in St Ives last year. I’d like to say thank you for all the kind words which customers and local people have said since.”

Police are asking anyone who has been offered gold jewellery for sale and are uncertain of its source to also get in touch.
