NAJ chairman and businesswoman Harriet Kelsall has written a book on how to turn creativity into a career.
Officially launching on Sept 19, the book titled, ‘The creative’s guide to starting a business: how to turn your talent into a career’, is for anyone who wants to turn their passions into a profession.
As a highly successful creative business woman and mentor to creative start-ups, Kelsall has drawn from her own experience and the advice of accomplished industry experts to write an easy-to-follow, inspirational guide.
Packed with interviews, encouraging real life case studies and tips from successful entrepreneurs who turned their passion into their own successful creative business, this practical guide will take readers through the very first steps of defining creative and financial success to ultimately establishing a rewarding start-up.
The book, which is published by an imprint of Little Brown, also includes practical exercises that will help readers sell their creations, choose the right time to start their business, and guide them through as they do so. It also provides practical guidance on writing a business plan, identifying and reaching customers, researching the competition, pricing products and testing the market, and promoting a business successfully.

To promote her first book, Kelsall will be embarking on a tour – with her first pit-stop being International Jewellery London.
On the first day of IJL, Kelsall will share her stories and top tips for creatives looking to start businesses, alongside a Q& A session.
She will also be doing several events around the UK, including official launches at The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, The Goldsmiths’ Centre in London and at the Birmingham Assay office as well as several Q&A’s and book signings.
