Victoria Waugh of V&V jewellery consultancy has been award B Leader status which enables her to guide businesses through the process to becoming a B Corporation.

B Corp status means that a company balances purpose and profit, and is legally required to consider the impact of its decisions on workers, customers, suppliers, community and environment.

Waugh’s appointment as B Leader opens up a new opportunity for UK jewellery businesses to achieve B Corp status.

The co-founder of V&V jewellery consultancy said: “The B Corp assessment is a fantastic tool to help jewellers improve the overall sustainability of their business.

“I’m proud to have achieved sought-after B Leader status and to officially be able to support jewellery brands towards certification.

“B Corp goes a step further than the existing jewellery specific certification schemes by providing a free comprehensive framework for businesses to evaluate themselves against and encouraging continuous improvement over time.

“Everything from better governance and sourcing, to improved customer relations, charitable giving, and civic engagement.”

UK Jewellery brands that have already achieved certification include London-based EC One, Yala Jewellery and Fenton.

Shakti Ellenwood, owner of Shakti Ellenwood Precious Jewellery, has recently gone through the B Corp assessment to analyse her brand’s ethical credentials.

She said: “The tool was invaluable when identifying areas of my business to improve.

“It was also reassuring to see how much I was already doing well and to be rewarded for that!

“With V&V’s support to complete the application process and implement steps to boost my score, I am now ready for certification.”
