App that cuts queues and eases safety concerns could aid jewellers as shoppers return to the high street in greater numbers

A new retail app that aims to give shoppers confidence to return to stores by cutting queues and thinning traffic could provide a useful boost for jewellers as more consumers return to the high street.

The developers, hospitality and IT development experts Charles Smith and Adam Batten, hope By Appointment will also aid shops in the safe re-opening of their businesses as customers return to high streets.

A real-time virtual queuing system aims to put an end to actual queues.

The free app promises to minimise contact and risk for shoppers, as well as saving time.

Once registered, By Appointment shoppers will be able to book, cancel and reschedule appointments, free of charge, as well as search for stores by category and map out a shopping route.

It also allows users to monitor the footfall in shops, showing how close to capacity a store is.

Meanwhile, retailers get a year’s free subscription should they sign up before the end of July 2020.

They can set up a contactless check-in system via the use of QR codes for customers.

Charles Smith, co-founder of By Appointment, commented: “This app will revolutionise the way retailers operate and consumers shop in the post-lockdown world. Instilling confidence and enhancing the shopping experience, it will help get people back in-store and the economy back on its feet.”
