We are sad to announce the death of Mark Richards, aged 80, who passed away on 26 November 2020.
Mark is survived by his beloved wife, Dinah, and two children, Jason and Beth, and their children.
Mark and Dinah met when they were both 15 and they were together for 65 years.
Mark ran a hotel in Blackpool with Dinah for a number of years, before the lure of the jewellery trade enticed Mark to change tack.
Mark joined Worthington Jewellers in Blackpool in 1969; he went on to develop his hugely successful career as UK sales director, formerly in Excalibur Jewellers and then with Gallery Jewellers Ltd and subsequently G&A Ltd.
His illustrious career within the jewellery trade spanned 50+ years, during which time he built a reputation as one of the true characters of the industry.
Mark continued to work up until a few weeks ago, representing HNJ Trading Ltd (HK), who benefitted from Mark’s renowned experience in the UK jewellery market and his extensive list of retail contacts in the trade.
Although Mark possessed qualities in abundance, his colleagues, customers and friends within the trade, highlight his immense integrity and legendary sense of fun.
His endless array of hilarious anecdotes from his experiences in the trade and the times running the hotel in Blackpool, entertained customers around the world, who were fortunate enough to meet Mark.
His generosity in sharing his vast experience with the sales teams he led and those he worked with, has left a legacy of many successful jewellery professionals, who cite Mark as a key mentor.
Mark was equally respected by his colleagues and the customers he dealt with and he built up an enviable network of contacts and friends within the industry, all of whom will miss him dearly.
