Ortak to axe 28 jobs as it closes three stores

Administrator BDO says it is still seeking a buyer for the brand.

Orkney-based company Ortak is set to cut 28 jobs and close three stores following last week’s announcement that it had gone into administration.

According to its administator BDO, Ortak is due to close its stores at the Buchanan Galleries in Glasgow, the Ocean Terminal in Edinburgh and its store in Stirling. The closures will lead to 19 job losses.

A further nine roles are set to be cut at the jewellery brand’s headquarters in Kirkwall, Orkney.

The firm has 155 members of staff across the UK and the majority of its own-brand stores are based in Scotland.

BDO said it was still looking to sell the business as a going concern.
