PJ AWARDS 2021: Everything you need to know about all 17 categories

Professional Jeweller readers have been asking for more information on the categories now open for nominations for the PJ Awards 2021.

You asked, so we listened. You can now find an updated description of each category and what PJ expects from nominees below.

RETAILER CATEGORIES

Independent Fashion Jewellery Retailer of the Year (fewer than 5 stores) SPONSORED BY IXXXI

Retailers in this category have to be independently owned, operate four or fewer stores, and trade mainly in fashion and lifestyle jewellery brands priced at under £1,000. We want to hear about retailers that have found success through innovation or overcome hardships in the past year.

Independent Fine Jewellery Retailer of the Year (fewer than 5 stores) SPONSORED BY WOLF

Retailers in this category must be destination jewellery boutique businesses with fewer than five stores, that excel in sales of fine jewellery priced at over £1,000. Again, we want to hear about retailers that have found success through innovation or overcome hardships in the past year.

Multiple Fashion Jewellery Retailer of the Year (5 or more stores)

Retailers in this category have five or more stores, and trade mainly in fashion and lifestyle jewellery brands priced at under £1,000. Retailers that have overcome hardships, found financial success in a difficult climate or that have taken an ambitious approach to growth are well-placed to enter.

Multiple Luxury Jewellery Retailer of the Year (5 or more stores) SPONSORED BY CURTEIS

Retailers in this category must be destination jewellery boutique businesses with more than four stores that excel in sales of fine jewellery priced at over £1,000. Again, retailers that have overcome hardships, found financial success in a difficult climate or that have taken an ambitious approach to growth are well-placed to enter.

Branded Jewellery Boutique of the Year

Finalists in this category present the essence of their brand in their own physical stores. We want to hear about unique store design, success stories or overcoming difficult circumstances.

Digital Innovator of the Year

Retailers in this category are embracing digital trends and being innovative online to bolster business. This has been the year of e-commerce across practically every industry, so we expect you probably have a big online sales success story to share this year.

Jewellery Team of the Year SPONSORED BY TI SENTO – MILANO

Honouring the most industrious, hard-working and creative team working for a jeweller in the UK. Teamwork, customer service and loyalty are qualities we expect to find in a winning team.

Best New Store or Store Refurbishment of the Year

Retailers in this category have opened a new store, or revamped a current one, in the last 12 months to meet new consumer demands. The last year has been a difficult time for brick-and-mortar stores but there have been numerous accounts of retailers doubling down on in-store sales by investing big in growth and refurbishment. Tell us your opening or renovation story and why now was the perfect time to undertake the project.

Retail Leader of the Year

This award will shine a light on an individual blazing a trail in the retail market. The individual should have a proven record of innovating and increasing sales this year. It could be anyone from a shop floor assistant to a CEO or MD.

 

SUPPLIER CATEGORIES

Fine Jewellery Brand of the Year

The finalists are fine jewellery brands (producing items crafted from gold and platinum, and adorned with gemstones and diamonds) operating in the UK that have demonstrated they have the best products, sales, support, service, and marketing this year. In your nomination explain why the brand is head-and-shoulders above its competitors.

Fashion Jewellery Brand of the Year

The finalists are fashion jewellery brands operating in the UK that have demonstrated they have the best products, sales, support, service, and marketing this year. In your nomination explain why the brand is head-and-shoulders above its competitors.

Emerging Jewellery Brand of the Year

Finalists in this category have entered the UK market in the last two years and successfully opened doors, built brand awareness and secured sales and should have their eye on continued growth in the near future.

Jewellery Industry Supplier of the Year

This category is for jewellery industry suppliers operating in the UK that have demonstrated they have the best products, sales, support and service this year.

CSR Jewellery Supplier of the Year

This category honours jewellery businesses showing co-operate social responsibility.

Jewellery Designer of the Year SPONSORED BY GENTLE DIAMONDS

Finalists in this category are jewellery designers  operating in the UK that have caught the industry’s attention with innovative designs.

Young Jewellery Designer of the Year (under 30) SPONSORED BY GENTLE DIAMONDS

The finalists in this category are young/emerging designers under 30 years old, operating in the UK and producing innovative products.

 

SPECIAL AWARD

Lifetime Achievement Award

Paying tribute to an individual who has dedicated their life to the UK jewellery industry.
