Welcome to the third edition of the Professional Jeweller Reach List, a comprehensive study into the digital reach of the biggest specialist jewellery brands and retailers in the UK.
This list examines the online power players and measures their digital footprint in the UK through quantitative analysis of web traffic, using a ranking system set by Alexa, a subsidiary of Amazon, as well as social media engagement on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, to create an overall digital reach figure. This reach has then been compared with industry peers in key categories.
The top five players in each category have been be unveiled in our exclusive Reach List 2017 report, which can be found by clicking on the links below.
The Alexa ranking used to calculate the top five businesses uses a proprietary methodology that combines a site’s estimated number of daily unique visitors and page views over three months. It tracks worldwide market share for all websites, from Google (ranked number 1) downwards.
To ensure our reach list is focused on UK shoppers, we have used the UK ranking to determine placement and sites without UK rankings were excluded.
Whilst compiling this year’s Reach List research, Professional Jeweller also applied the same analysis to UK jewellery trade publications, and we are pleased to report that when it comes to reaching the industry online, we are streaks ahead.
On Instagram Professional Jeweller has 2.5K more followers than its nearest competitor, and we continue to lead the way on Twitter with 2.8K more. We are also proud to reveal that in the last 12 months we have commanded more likes than any other publication on Facebook.
As Retail Jeweller does not have a UK Alexa ranking, we had to base numbers on the global ranking of each trade publication. On this basis, in first place is Professional Jeweller with a reach number of 0.076, while Retail Jeweller and Jewellery Focus come closely together in second and third position with a reach ranking of 0.013 and 0.011 respectively.
Social media has become an increasingly important battleground for top companies as they jostle for market share, with platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter used to engage, influence and interact with customers.
So without further ado, we present the 2017 results…
