Meghan Markle and the Duchess of Cambridge both have the power to influence fashion and jewellery trends, but when it comes to their renowned engagement rings, which one does the public prefer?

According to a survey conducted by online jewellery retailer William May, Brits favour Meghan Markle’s bespoke three-stone engagement ring over any other ring worn by members of the Royal Family.

As reported by the Express, the results showed that over 49% of the 2,250 British participants prefer the ring adorning Ms Markle’s left hand. Only 35% favour Kate Middleton’s sapphire sparkle, which once belonged to the late Princess Diana.

While overall both men and women think Meghan Markle has the best engagement ring, when it came to second best the survey revealed taste depended on gender – with women preferring Kate Middleton’s engagement ring, and men voting for Princess Eugenie’s pink sapphire piece.

Meghan Markle will be marrying Prince Harry in May, and since the announcement of their engagement sales of three-stone rings and gold jewellery has soared.

Princess Eugenie has also influenced trends this year, with jewellers noting an increase in consumers looking at pink sapphires and styles similar to the latest royal engagement ring.
