Royal engagement sends sales of look-a-like ring rocketing.

Sales of a royal engagement look-a-like ring have rocketed at department store Debenhams.

The dress ring, which sells in stores for £6, has been a bestseller for two seasons but Debenhams said that sales have rocketed 312 percent since the engagement of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Debenhams PR manager Carie Barkhuizen said: “We are monitoring sales this week. If the ring continues to sell as it has over the last week, we will be looking to increase stock levels in the run up to Christmas."

The ring from Debenham’s Vicenza brand is made from coloured glass surrounded by diamantes. The ring is a slightly different colour than the royal engagement ring with a purple stone rather than a blue stone but Barkhuizen said that this has not dissuaded shoppers looking for a royal doppleganger.
