Sales soar as Asos makes international inroads


US site gives e-tailer boost as it plans French and German launches.

Fashion e-tailer Asos continues to enjoy soaring sales as it strengthens its UK business and makes significant inroads into international markets.

Sales jumped 47 percent to £69.7 million year on year in the three months to September 30. UK sales were up 21 percent to £43.7 million while international sales rocketed 128 percent to £26 million.

The jump in international sales at Asos was the result of the launch of a dedicated US site in September. The retail brand is also planning to launch country-specific sites for France and Germany by the end of this month.

Asos chief executive Nick Robertson said: “I am pleased to report continued strong sales growth, both in the UK and internationally. With retail gross margin ahead of prior year and costs tightly managed, we expect our full year results to be in line with market expectations.”

Asos sells a wide range of fashion-forward own-brand and designer jewellery and watches. Brands sold on the site include Ice Watch, Michael Kors, Nixon, Alex Monroe, Lola Rose and Swarovski.
