Sheffield City Council has submitted an outline planning application for a £480 million retail development in the heart of the city.
Sheffield is home to all major jewellery chains as well as several respected independents including Green & Benz, Warren James and Brown’s.
The planning application says construction of the Sheffield Retail Quarter scheme will start in 2016 with most shops opening in 2019. It will include shops, offices homes and restaurants.
The Retail Quarter plan replaces the Sevenstone development plan that failed to get off the ground and was scrapped in 2013.
Speaking to the BBC, Sheffield councillor Leigh Bramall said the city is “crying out for a new city centre”.
