STORE ENVY: Ogden of Harrogate

Discovering and reviving period features hidden by a plaster façade.

Luxury retailer Ogden of Harrogate recently gave its James Street showroom a major overhaul, using its collection of original French Baroque and English Regency furniture to create its Regency Room.

The former accounts office has been transformed into a one-stop wedding space that allows clients to design their own engagement rings, create a wedding gift list or hire Ogden’s antique tiaras.

While redeveloping the room, Ogden’s found many of its original features dating back 150 years hidden behind plaster, including its original cast iron fireplace. The interior and the choice of furnishings have been designed to complement the Regency drawing room atmosphere, and a bespoke gondola-style cabinet was made as the centrepiece of the room to display a collection of porcelain and crystal.

Ogden’s worked with architects Archial Norr on the modern-yet-traditional design, who were able to modernise the space without losing the space’s original character of the space.
