Export figures up in January while February and March look promising.

The Swiss watch industry is showing signs of improvement in 2010 as exports rose 0.7 percent year-on-year to CHF975.8 million (£604.5 million) in January.

The rise comes after 15 months of declines in Swiss watch export figures. In 2009, Swiss watch exports plummeted 22.3 percent.

François Thiébaud, who is on Swatch’s executive group management board as well as the advisory committee to BaselWorld, said: “There is a slight increase that we might not have thought last year.

“There was a slight recovery in January and I hope February will be a little bit better than January when we get the results. March also looks to be positive.”
