EXCLUSIVE: Taylor & Co relaunches with a new name and concept boutique

Independent jewellery retailer Taylor & Co will reopen its doors this month with a brand new concept set to bring the “sparkle of London, Bond Street” to Crowthorne.

Store founder, Mike Taylor, is an experienced professional goldsmith and freeman of London’s prestigious Goldsmiths Company. He has owned his boutique on Dukes Ride, Crowthorne since 1989 and it is admired locally for providing exceptional jewellery restoration and bespoke jewellery design work from the on-site workshop.

However, despite his success to date, Taylor’s first-hand experience of owning a high street boutique has encouraged him to try something new in order to boost footfall and sales in today’s marketplace. The result is Taylor & Co Master Goldsmiths – a complete rebranding of his Crowthorne boutique and a unique reimaging of what it means to sell jewellery, silverware and fabulous objet d’art in a bricks and mortar store in 2016.

While all of Taylor & Co’s in-demand workshop services will remain, the boutique will be transformed with a handpicked selection of the UK’s very best master goldsmiths. Many have a personal connection with Taylor and, as a result, will make regular visits to Crowthorne to meet customers, share their experiences and sit down in the in-house workshop to produce bespoke commissions on dedicated ‘Designer Days’.

In addition, Taylor & Co will offer the skilled crafts people it stocks a fairer share of the profits from the sale of their work; ensuring individuals are rewarded for their quality and craftsmanship.

“In the wake of the internet and the ability we all have to shop at the click of a button, I believe it is my duty to transform my boutique into a forward-thinking destination for luxury jewellery and silverware on the high street,” explains Taylor.

He adds: “I am passionate about high-quality craftsmanship, but I don’t think customers should have to travel to London to find it. Taylor & Co Master Goldsmiths gathers some of the best examples of technical expertise and beautiful design in one place, allowing customers to shop in comfort and perhaps commission their own designs to treasure forever.”

Taylor & Co has already secured key British brands and designers for its new concept boutique, including the illustrious House of Benney that boasts three royal warrants and was the subject of a BBC documentary earlier this year.

The British designer silverware and jewellery brand is available in no other retail establishment, making Taylor & Co its only global partner.

The boutique will also showcase designs by master goldsmith and diamond-mounter, Paul Draper, who is a fellow of the prestigious Institute of Professional Goldsmiths.

Looking ahead to the grand opening of Taylor & Co Master Goldsmiths on October 27 2016, Taylor comments: “We pride ourselves on bringing a ‘Bond Street experience’ to the Home Counties. I decided to rename my business Taylor & Co to really highlight the company we keep, the master craftspeople we associate ourselves with and the wonderful, experienced designers that our customers will have access to.”
